Events and Conferences Management for PR Professionals is a five-day, intermediate course for communications and corporate events staff who plan conferences, launches and stakeholder events. You learn to tie each event to communication objectives, manage speakers, budgets, venues and media, handle reputational risk, and evaluate results, and you leave with a completed Event Communication Plan. The course is delivered by Mercury Training Center.

About This Course

Many conferences run smoothly on the day yet leave no clear effect on reputation or relationships, because they were planned as logistics rather than as communication. To follow the course you should already support or run events at work. You practice on realistic briefs, drafting plans, running briefings and reviewing results with peers.

Who It Is For

  • Public relations staff who shape messages, media access and reputation around organizational events
  • Corporate communications teams responsible for conferences, forums and stakeholder gatherings
  • Events coordinators who manage venues, suppliers, schedules and on-site delivery
  • Protocol and government relations staff who host senior guests and official delegations
  • Marketing staff who use launches and exhibitions to reach target audiences

This course is not for readers new to public relations, who will gain more from an introductory communications course first, nor for venue or hotel operators focused on guest services, who are better served by a hospitality operations course.

Competencies You Will Build

  • Objective-Led Event Planning: you set measurable communication goals for an event before choosing a format or venue
  • Stakeholder and Speaker Management: you map guests, sponsors and speakers and brief each one with clear expectations
  • Event Budget Control: you build and track a cost plan and justify trade-offs to decision-makers
  • Media Relations at Events: you plan press access, spokespeople and content so coverage reflects key messages
  • Reputational Risk Handling: you anticipate incidents, prepare holding statements and lead the response on site
  • Outcome Evaluation: you measure outputs, outtakes and outcomes and report what the event achieved

What You Will Be Able to Do

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • From an organizational brief, write event objectives, key messages and target audiences that guide every later decision
  • Given a guest list and sponsor commitments, produce a stakeholder map and a speaker briefing pack
  • Using a cost template, prepare an event budget with contingency lines and a supplier comparison
  • From a venue shortlist, choose a location and draft the run sheet for the event day
  • Given a risk scenario, prepare a response plan, a holding statement and spokesperson guidance
  • Using evaluation criteria set at the start, compile a post-event report for senior management

  • Exercise: you respond to a live on-site incident at a product launch with a holding statement and briefing

What You Take Back

You return with an Event Communication Plan for an upcoming event of your own. In your first month back you use it to brief your team and suppliers, secure budget approval, and agree evaluation measures with your manager before planning begins.

  • Event objectives, key messages and audience map
  • Budget, venue choice and run sheet
  • Media and reputational risk plan with holding statements
  • Evaluation framework and post-event report outline

Quick Answers (FAQ)

What should I know before an events and conferences management course for PR professionals?

You should already contribute to planning or running events and understand basic public relations work such as writing messages and dealing with media. No prior event qualification is needed.

How does events management for PR professionals differ from hospitality events management?

It treats the event as a communication tool, focusing on objectives, stakeholders, media and reputation. Hospitality-focused training centers on guest services, catering and venue operations rather than on communication outcomes.

How do PR professionals measure whether a conference succeeded?

They set objectives before the event, then measure outputs such as attendance and coverage, outtakes such as audience understanding, and outcomes such as changed attitudes or relationships, reporting all three to management.

What do I take back from events and conferences management training?

You take back an Event Communication Plan built for a real event of your own, covering objectives, budget, logistics, media, risk and evaluation, ready to share with your team.

For Your Manager

After the course, your team member will be able to plan events and conferences around clear communication objectives, control budgets, manage speakers and media, and respond to reputational incidents. They return with an Event Communication Plan for a real upcoming event, which they can use first to brief suppliers and secure approval before planning of that event begins.
