ISO 45001 implementation and internal auditing is the practitioner's side of the standard: turning its clauses into hazard registers, controls and records, then checking them with evidence through internal audits. This 1-week course is for HSE officers, supervisors and internal auditors who put the standard to work, and you leave with a Site OH&S Implementation and Audit Pack. This ISO 45001 implementation course is delivered by Mercury Training Center.
About This Course
Many sites hold an ISO 45001 manual, yet the hazard register is out of date, workers are not consulted and audits find the same gaps each year. You should already work in HSE, operations or quality on a site. You practice each clause on a case site, then apply it to your own area.
Who It Is For
- HSE officers who keep hazard registers, procedures and records for a site or project.
- Operations and facility supervisors who run day-to-day controls and permits.
- Internal auditors who check management standards across departments.
- Quality and compliance staff who join OH&S work to existing ISO standards.
- Project and contractor coordinators who bring outside crews under site rules.
This course is not for senior leaders designing an organization-wide OH&S framework over a longer period, who will get more from an extended professional course, nor for people seeking to run third-party certification audits, who need a dedicated lead auditor course.
Competencies You Will Build
- Clause Interpretation: you read each ISO 45001 clause and say what evidence on site shows it is met.
- Hazard and Risk Registers: you identify hazards and rate and control them in a register that stays current.
- Operational Controls: you set procedures, permits and contractor rules that people follow.
- Worker Participation: you run consultation that brings frontline knowledge into decisions.
- Internal Audit Practice: you plan, run and report audits that find real gaps with evidence.
- Corrective Action: you trace incidents and nonconformities to root causes and close them.
What You Will Be Able to Do
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- From the ISO 45001 clause structure under Annex SL, map each requirement to an owner and a record on your site.
- Given a site walk-through, build a hazard and risk register with controls ranked by the hierarchy of controls.
- Using a draft OH&S policy and objectives, check them against leadership and interested-party needs.
- Given an audit scope, prepare an audit plan and checklist and interview auditees for evidence.
- From audit findings, write nonconformity reports and a corrective action plan with root causes.
- Using monitoring data and audit results, prepare inputs for the management review.

- Exercise: a facility management contract reports a fall from height; you investigate and draft the corrective actions.
What You Take Back
You return with the Site OH&S Implementation and Audit Pack for your own area. In your first month back, use it to refresh the hazard register with the team, run one internal audit against the clauses that matter most and track the resulting corrective actions to closure.
- Clause-to-evidence map for your site.
- Updated hazard and risk register with controls.
- Internal audit plan, checklist and report template.
- Nonconformity and corrective action log.
Quick Answers (FAQ)
What should I know before ISO 45001 implementation and internal auditing training?
You should already work in HSE, operations or quality on a site and know its main hazards. No previous audit experience is needed; audit methods are built up from planning to reporting.
How does ISO 45001 implementation and internal auditing differ from lead auditor training?
Lead auditor training prepares people to run third-party certification audits. This course is for people inside the organization: putting the clauses into practice on site and checking them through internal audits that drive corrective action.
What evidence do internal auditors look for under ISO 45001?
Internal auditors look for records, observations and interviews that show each clause works in practice: a current hazard register, trained people, consulted workers, tested emergency plans and corrective actions that were closed and checked.
What do I take back from ISO 45001 implementation and internal auditing training?
You take back the Site OH&S Implementation and Audit Pack: a clause-to-evidence map, an updated hazard register, an audit plan and checklist, and a corrective action log, built for your own area.
For Your Manager
After the course, the team member can map ISO 45001 clauses to site evidence, keep a hazard register current, set operational and contractor controls, and plan and run internal audits that lead to corrective action. They return with a Site OH&S Implementation and Audit Pack, first used for the next internal audit in their area.
