  • Understand the construction (design and management) regulations.
  • Learn about safety inspections and auditing.
  • Overview of safety at street works and road works.
  • Set up a site.
  • Security on site.
  • Learn about statutory forms, notices, and registers.

Unit 2: Occupational Health and Hygiene

  • Learn about the management of health on site.
  • Personal protective equipment.
  • Understand the control of substances hazardous to health.
  • First aid at work.
  • Food safety on site.
  • Work with lead.
  • Manual handling.
  • Asbestos in the workplace
  • Learn dust hazards and control of fumes.
  • Control of noise.
  • Protection of the eyes.
  • Protection of the skin.
  • Control of vibration.

Unit 3: Working at Height

  • Learn about the work at height regulations 2005.
  • Understand ladders, steps, and lightweight staging.
  • Work over or near water.
  • What are system scaffolds and mobile towers?
  • Learn about tubes and fitting scaffolds.
  • Safe working on roofs and at heights.
  • Understand fall-arrest and suspension equipment.
  • Safety with steelwork.

Unit 4: Safe Use of Plant and Equipment

  • Abrasive wheels.
  • Cartridge-operated tools.
  • Lift operations, equipment, and accessories.
  • Mobile elevated working platform.
  • Understand hoists and hoist towers.
  • Plant and work equipment.
  • Woodworking machines.

Unit 5: Other Hazardous Activities

  • Trackside safety - railways.
  • Work with or near buried services.
  • Lone working.
  • Electrical safety on site.
  • Work in and around excavations.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Safety in demolition.

Unit 6: Human Factors

  • Accident prevention and control.
  • Accident reporting and investigation.
  • Behavior-based safety.
  • Understand drugs and alcohol misuse.

Unit 7: Waste Management and The Environment

  • Waste management.
  • Environmental management.

Unit 8: Fire and Flammable Substances

  • Fire prevention and control in the office.
  • Learn about fire prevention and control on site.
  • Dangerous substances.
  • Learn about liquefied petroleum gasses.
  • Learn about vehicle fuels, including petrol, diesel, and LPG.
